Strategies for Leading Teams in Healthcare

Effective leaders are always looking for new tools to help them connect with and motivate their teams. I recently had the chance to lead a three-part webinar series for the Carolinas Medical Group Managers Association, and wow — the conversations, reflections, and “aha” moments from this group of healthcare leaders were incredible.

We kicked things off with “Uncover Your Communication Style and How It Impacts Your Leadership.” Everyone explored their own communication tendencies, discovered how they show up with their teams, and learned tools to better connect and collaborate through greater style awareness.

Next up was “How to Build Social Capital Among Your Team to Build Connection.” We dove into research-based ways to strengthen relationships at work — shifting from a mindset of agreement to one of connection — and practiced the art of compassionate candor (because honest and kind can absolutely coexist).

We wrapped up with “Learn the 5 Steps to Become a Curious Communicator.” This one hit home. It’s all about approaching tough conversations with confidence and calm, reducing defensiveness, and creating space for psychological safety and meaningful feedback.

What stood out most to me? The shared commitment to leading with empathy and curiosity — even when the work feels hard.
